Senior Earthing Design Engineer

Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Earthing Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Earthing Department, you will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of intelligent earthing and lightning solutions. Your expertise will contribute to the success of projects in the field of substation design, high-voltage power systems design, and front-end engineering design studies.

As a Senior Earthing Design Engineer, this role is crucial to the success of our organisation. You will provide exceptional leadership and expertise in earthing design, reporting directly to the Design Manager. This role has a considerable influence on shaping our organisation’s success in this field.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design Leadership:
    • Lead a design team in developing innovative and effective earthing solutions
    • Collaborate closely with the Design Manager to ensure alignment with departmental goals
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Utilise your thorough understanding of earthing principles to provide technical guidance
    • Contribute to the design of high-voltage power systems, substation layouts, and front-end engineering design studies
  • Project Management:
    • Manage and oversee the execution of multiple earthing design projects from conception to completion
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Collaboration:
    • Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with multidisciplinary teams within the Crayside Group and with external partners

Our Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related scientific field – Master’s Degree is a plus
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in earthing design within the electrical engineering field
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery
  • Experience using XGSLab and/or CDEGS
  • In-depth knowledge of earthing principles and industry best practices
  • Knowledge of lightning protection best practices, ideally within explosive atmospheres
  • Familiarity with substation design, high-voltage power systems, and FEED studies
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Proven Leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor a design team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to navigate and resolve challenges in a dynamic engineering environment

HV Substation

Power Systems Engineer

Summary

At GreyMatters, our Power System team provides design and analysis of power networks across various sectors, including distribution and transmission networks and renewable energy projects such as grid-connected PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Power System Engineer to join our expanding Power System team

Your role will involve design and analysis of medium and high voltage power systems utilising industry-recognised power systems analysis software, DIgSILENT, ETAP . In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of power infrastructure, contributing to cutting-edge projects that revolutionise the energy landscape. We are seeking a candidate who is not only technically proficient engineer to join out team.

Your Responsibilities:

As a graduate engineer at GreyMatters, you will be responsible for delivering earthing and lightning protection designs for our clients. This will include all aspects of earthing design, including in-field testing across the UK and abroad, building and running models using market-leading tools like XGSLab and CDEGS, and producing reports and CAD drawings. You’ll also attend meetings with clients, giving advice and presenting design solutions.

Working for a growing company, you’ll also get involved in supporting efforts to promote the company, as well as providing technical support for other XGSLab users. You’ll be expected to self-manage, handling several projects at one time, always keeping our clients up to date.

Key responsibilities

As a Power Systems Engineer, your role will encompass a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including:
  • Utilise power systems software to model complex networks and run advanced power system studies, both steady state and dynamic.
  • Produce engineering reports based on the outputs of power system studies and prepare designs calculations, and technical specifications.
  • Perform compliance requirements when integrating renewable energy sources into power infrastructure projects, with a focus on wind (onshore and offshore), photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Co-ordinate input from other disciplines and project design team to in undertaking the studies.
  • Check calculations, specifications, and reports produced by others.
  • Comply with GreyMatters project management, operational, environmental, and health and safety procedures.
  • Work effectively within project teams, sharing knowledge, promoting ideas, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Actively participate in marketing and business development activities to elevate the GreyMatters brand.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Degree in Power Systems Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status or progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering role undertaking Power Systems Studies.
  • Proficency in power systems analysis software such as DIgSILENT Power Factory or ETAP.
  • Knowledge on UK Engineering Recommendation G99 and UK Grid Code requirements is desirable.
  • Proven ability to produce specifications, and report writing to present the studies results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to manage tasks across multiple projects and conflicting deadlines, working both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a project team.

Graduate Design Engineer

Summary

Field Technician

Summary

If you are a self-driven type of person with excellent organisational skills who has demonstrated multiple years of diligent dedication to your art in the field/onsite ‘on-the-tools’ and now wishes to combine your hands-on problem-solving skills with more of a mental stretch using the latest digital engineering technologies in a consultancy environment, then don’t delay. This appointment is very rare.

Expand your knowledge into multiple fields including geology, electrical engineering and design. Work alongside some of the best minds in the industry in a multidiscipline consultancy with a clearly defined path for future career development and institutional recognition for the successful candidate.
A 4×4 vehicle is provided for fieldwork component and you will be required to use the latest CAD (computer-aided design) tools.

Responsibilities

  • Geophys Surveys: Conduct geological measurements such as soil resistivity and thermal resistivity.
  • Site Assessments: Conduct inspections and on-site assessments to evaluate the condition and status of the client’s assets and systems.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Perform basic testing, data logging and diagnostic procedures to safely verify the effectiveness of electrical systems and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of survey activities, inspections, and maintenance tasks.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, design engineers, and other team members across the globe to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate with external and internal clients to explain the intended scope of work, pre-site health and safety, and provide an effective communication link to the GreyMatters offshore design team.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all output CAD, and survey activities comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, quality and company policies.
  • Training: Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices. Provide training to colleagues as required.

Requirements

  • Education: GCSE/BTEC NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. Relevant technical certifications or vocational training in electrical systems, earthing, or lightning protection is a plus.
  • IT Aptitude: CAD skills are a clear advantage. However, providing you can demonstrate an aptitude and comfort navigating your way around digital technologies, like CAD, then training may be provided.
  • Experience: Proven experience in frontline onsite activities and maintenance. Experience working in a similar role within the construction or electrical industry is advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of working safely onsite within high-regulated sectors is advantageous. Proficiency in using test equipment and diagnostic tools is an advantage.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to translate the technical into simpler intuitive concepts for clients and team members.
  • Problem-solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Team Player: Collaborative attitude and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel as required. A limited amount of international travel may be necessary (not guaranteed). Therefore, a UK passport and a clean driving license are required.
