HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR SPD IS WORKING?

Why is a hot site a problem

SPD (surge protection devices) are almost a prerequisite for every electrical and lightning protection system. So, how do you know if your SPD is working? Usually, we’re forced to physically open up live panels to check if the plethora of SPDs is still functioning; very often, this task is made even more complicated on the data side of things, because there is no visual indication at all!

So, knowing electronic equipment is getting ever more critical to our ‘smart’ lives at home and in the workplace, it makes sense to know if your SPD is working.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR SPD IS WORKING

After this piece, you will learn if you need to test your SPD and why you should or shouldn’t…

Corona Blues – My Advice While Furloughed (or Remote Working).

Learning new skills while furloughed

With the current pressure on governments to relax or even lift the current lockdown measures, there’s one word that the more neurotic amongst us try not to use – recession!

Robert Kiyosaki gives some good advice.

“Face your fears and doubts, and new worlds will open to you.”

Robert Kiyosaki

There are several things we can all do to get ourselves prepared for and even thrive in a recession (having gone through many economic downturns myself from the 1980s), there’s always something we can do to improve our situation when it passes.

Are you getting tired of people stealing your lovely earthing arrangements

Fed up Losing your earthing Arrangements

Good news – having just finished a project to pin lovely shiny copper conductors to their supporting structures protecting their Earthing Arrangements. We’ve ended up with quite a few surpluses of the Fischer FNAII stainless pins (we call them Titan pins – part no. 044112) leftover – 3,400 to be exact!

These bad boys are simple to fit concrete structures using a 6mm dia masonry drill at discrete spacings (typically 500mm) to make things incredibly hard for a thief to remove the valuable conductor without spending considerable time trying. This Anti-theft earthing arrangement is not a silver bullet, but even if they do persist all that they can practically do is to cut away a 500mm section at a time not 10’s or 100’s of meters. Therefore slowing the whole process down massively.

Thus, making things incredibly frustrating for the thief and making them more vulnerable to getting caught as well as reducing how much of the conductor goes missing.
