Soil Resistivity Testing Methods Part 3 The Wenner 4 Probe Test.

Soil Resistivity Testing Methods Wenner 4 Probe Test

Soil Resistivity Testing Methods a popular post. Originally published in 2013 and now updated in 2020.

Wenner 4 Probe test is one of the most common soil resistivity testing methods. It is also part 3 in a series of short posts on Soil Resistivity Testing Methods. Part 1 & Part 3. Together with, the common mistakes encountered. And also, practical advice on how to avoid the Soil Resistivity Testing 10 Common Mistakes.

Soil Resistivity Testing Methods – The Wenner 4 Probe

So soil resistivity testing can be carried out using different methods. Therefore, below describes the Wenner 4 Probe Test Method. Also, its one of the three most popular soil resistivity methods employed, to perform a soil resistivity test:

Why Greymatters Consultants Use CDGEGS HIFREQ Earth Modelling Software

Soil Resistivity Testing

Clients often ask us why we use CDEGS HIFREQ instead of XGSLab or, any of the other packages available in the market. And our usual response is simply. “It’s the market leading product (Top 1%)”. So, I thought it might be useful to quantify exactly why it is the leading product and also why it commands a leading price. In addition, to demonstrate how some of the less capable products leave you and your staff exposed to unquantified risks. Soil Resistivity Survey Methods – A few Short Videos

Soil Resistivity Testing

Here is a collection of Soil Resistivity Survey Video(s). Some are from us, the team at Greymatters. And, others sourced from Youtube.  Can you spot the real guys?
Here’s Ian of Greymatters (not feeling 100%) carrying out a field soil resistance survey.

Understanding Soil Resistivity & Soil Resistivity Testing Methods

Ian getting ready

Understanding Soil Resistivity is critical to Electrical Earthing System Design.

Soil Resistivity

Soil resistivity is a measure of how much the soil resists the flow of electricity. So an understanding of the soil resistivity and how it varies with depth in the soil is necessary to design the grounding – earthing system in an electrical installation.

What Exactly is a Soil Resistivity Desktop Study?

Desktop Study Geology

Before installing an electrical earthing system design, there are a couple of other essential tasks to tackle. One of these tasks is the ‘Soil Resistivity Desktop Study.’ This study illustrated in the Soil Resistivity Table below.

Historically installation companies may have offered to drive a single earth rod into the ground and take a range of readings from it at various depths as it is driven deeper. This approached is now considered totally unacceptable for anything other than the most basic of designs, e.g. a generator earth. [Read more…] about What Exactly is a Soil Resistivity Desktop Study?
