How do I know my 1950’s earthing arrangements are still keeping my workforce safe?

Are Vintage Earthing Arrangements Safe?

I thought I’d continue from my last blog piece talking about heavy current injection earth testing. By talking about a key application where it can potentially deliver much better results than the modern CDEGS approach. Therefore, on your earthing arrangements.

Many industrial sites built in the 1950s and 60s as industrialisation grew. This, in line with the expansion of the electrical grid. Led to a huge program of electrical substation construction around the world. What this means is that some of us own the responsibility of managing sites with ageing transformers, assets and equipment. Thus the design to obsolete standards? Therefore to know what hazard this presents today, is simply unknown.

Electrical Earth Condition Monitoring Vital When You’re Responsible for Keeping Critical Assets Operational

Electrical Earth Condition Monitoring

Smart Maintenance using Electrical Earth Condition Monitoring

Electrical Earth Condition Monitoring is vital…

Picture the scene. You’re the person responsible for keeping a multitude of mission critical assets operational and available at all times.  You can’t afford to have any piece of equipment not performing as it was intended.  All decisions you make are usually of the kind that are the career-defining or the career-ending ones.  If things do degrade to the point where they might fail. It’s you that people turn to, at the front-line or shareholders. Either start shouting or asking some really uncomfortable questions, right? Electrical Earthing System Design Separation

Soil Resistivity Separation of Earths in Earthing Grounding Design

During a recent training event held by SES Technologies for CDEGS (Current Distribution, Electromagnetic Fields, Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis). A finite element analysis software suite for Electrical Earthing System Design, a number of issues were discussed. But one that crops up time and time again in the UK was that old chestnut in Electrical Earthing System Design Separation.
