Earthing Design, Simulations and Field Assessments

HV Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Studies
As the screenshot below shows, AC Electromagnetic Fields are cast out from all HV infrastructure to some degree. The image shows an elevations of a HV (220 kV) tower with 2 circuits suspended from its cross arms. Understanding how far the EM fields project their influence to another structure, or what mutual coupling might exist is the aim of the AC EMI Study. Induced voltages and circulating currents can be, without doubt, the 'unseen' killer.
Using the latest industry accepted CDEGS software with its powerful visualisations of computed field strengths and induced voltage profiles, the engineer is provided with the necessary insights to Risk Assess any number of scenarios. For example, perhaps a site has a perimeter fenceline with a significant parallelism (>200m) with an Overhead Line, or a buried pipeline that shares the same corridor, or you have a building under an HV Overhead line. Whatever the uncertainty in electromagnetic field(s), our team of certified/fully accredited research engineers can demystify the situation, so that your responsibilities are fully met, allowing you to make 'informed' decisions on prioritising project spend and safety.
Soil Resistivity Studies
Understanding the soil and its impact on earth (ground) return current behaviour under fault conditions as part of the Safety Calculations requirements. Soil resistivity is not only a key component to a successful earth/ground design, but it is crucial in 'right-sizing' your design so that the earth (grounding) is matched to the soil in which it's going to be installed. Again, this optimises the design to ensure the earth is fit-for-purpose and your costs are controlled ... no more open cheque book installations!
Lightning Safety Studies
Risk assessment and design undertaken to ensure both the lightning protection and earthing systems can be safely integrated. We use specialist High Frequency software which allows us to model the effects of a lightning stroke to a structure, piece of equipment, tank or substation.
